La Fashionista is a series of self-portraits on paper inspired by clothing collections produced during the period of 2009-2016 associated with Normal Is Good project. "Normal Is Good" or "Normal Es Bueno” is a project created by Yali Romagoza that it focuses on the development of clothing collections that blurs the line between fashion design and visual art in a multidisciplinary practice. Yali grew up in Havana in the nineties during the big economic depression known as "The Special Period/ Período Especial" in Cuba. With many hardships in her surroundings she found refuge in fashion. She understands fashion as an expression of her individuality. A space of transformation of the self and a language to explore her femininity. She approaches fashion as a tool to protest designing and wearing her clothes as a reaction of the oppression she felt living in Cuba. However, Yali doesn't consider herself a fashion designer but an artist who uses fashion as an element into her art practice. La Fashionista is a reference to herself who has existed isolated within a space in where she has always been an outsider.
