Title: Normal Is Good
Materials: Conceptual garment collections, objects.
Normal Is Good was created in Havana, Cuba as a project focused on the development of conceptual garment collections that blurs the line between fashion design and visual art in a multidisciplinary practice. Pockets or spaces are hidden within sections of the garments to hold personal belongings instead of using a purse or bag. Through these designs, we are invited to rethink relationships with space and the things we usually carry in our daily lives. Normal Is Good is an expression of Romagoza's position opposed to social conventions and prejudices; this is especially true because of her having grown up in Cuba is where the idea of the egalitarian society suppresses any expression of individuality and self-empowerment. Normal Is Good is based on this condition and makes us reflect on: -What is required and what is the norm? If normal is good, what is the normal (good) to the society we live?. Yali Romagoza positions her as the pioneer of conceptual art linked to fashion in Cuba. From 2009 to 2016 Normal Is Good produced several conceptual garment collections that were presented through performances in Havana, Paris, Miami and New York.
