Time runs where there is not truth, 2014

Silk, thread

In these pieces the artist experiments with new techniques approaching to the garments more like sculptures. Yali seeks to reconnect with the landscape of Cuba. On the beach, amidst the sand and water, she stands as a metaphor of her departure from the island. Each fold, every seam, every drape of intercepted material, seem to talk about her experience as an immigrant. A palette of sandy colors is evidence of the material exploration achieved by the artist while adapting to a new environment. Pieces that reflect issues of the soul, while celebrating both the beauty and melancholy.
