Time runs when there is not truth/ El tiempo correo cuando no hay verdad, 2014

garment, silk, linen, thread

In these pieces Yali experiments with fabric manipulation approaching to the garments more like sculptures. The artist reconnects with the landscape of Cuba. On the beach, amidst the sand and water, the artist stands as a metaphor of her departure from the island. Each fold, every drape of intercepted material talk about the time apart from her native country. A melancholy air that is absorbed into the coarse and delicates textures. A palette of sandy colors is evidence of the material exploration achieved by the artist while adapting to a new environment. Pieces that reflects issues of the soul while celebrating both the beauty and melancholy.
